Clear answers from our Sofia atelier
Questions before your first Stylyne skirt?
Choosing a statement skirt can raise practical questions. Here are honest answers about fit, materials, care and ordering. For personal advice, email support@stylyne.com with your waist measurement, height and the style you are considering.
Fit & choosing your skirt
Pleats naturally create shape and movement. Our current skirts are intentionally constructed as a full circle from two half-circle panels. This gives them more fabric around the waist than a straight or quarter-circle skirt, but it is also what creates their rich movement—especially when you walk. At the same time, the vertical lines of the pleats draw the eye up and down and tend to visually elongate the figure.
The finished effect varies with the fabric, print, length, your body and where you wear the waistband. We prefer to explain the construction honestly rather than make one slimming promise for every body. If you are unsure, email support@stylyne.com with your waist measurement, height and the skirt you are considering. We know how each fabric behaves and will help you choose.
Measure your waist where you would like the elastic waistband to sit and compare it with the size guide for the skirt you are considering. The pleated body of the skirt provides room through the hips, so your waist measurement is usually the most useful starting point.
Our standard production batches run from XS to XL. Where a style is offered in a size above XL, that skirt is made separately after ordering rather than as part of the standard batch. Available extended sizes depend on the design and fabric.
If you are between sizes or would like a second opinion, send us your waist measurement, height and preferred style. Your message is answered by people who know the garment, not by an external call centre.
Think about where you would like the hem to fall and how you plan to wear the skirt. Lengths vary by design. If the exact measurement is not shown on the product page, ask us before ordering. Tell us your height, the style and where you would like it to finish, and we will help you judge the proportion.
Design, materials & craft
Stylyne is both a fashion brand and a specialist pleating atelier. Our family has developed its pleating knowledge over more than 30 years and across three generations. The garments are designed, pleated, constructed, finished and inspected in our Sofia atelier.
We combine that technical knowledge with vivid colour, original prints and generous full-circle construction. The result is not simply fabric that has been pleated: the artwork, material, folds and movement are developed to work together.
We do not print a repeating pattern on a roll and then cut an arbitrary section for each skirt. Each printed skirt begins as two individually prepared half-circle print pieces: one for the front and one for the back. Together they form a full circle.
The artwork is positioned for the shape of the skirt and for the way it will interact with the pleats. The panels are then pleated and constructed so that the colour and pattern change as the skirt moves.
Permanent pleats need a fabric that can remember its heat-set shape. Polyester is thermoplastic, which allows an appropriate fabric to retain its folds through normal wear, moisture and careful washing in a way most natural fibres cannot.
Not every polyester behaves in the same way. We choose fabrics according to their weight, softness, movement and ability to hold a stable pleat, not simply according to the fibre name on the label. This is a technical choice made for the durability and wearability of the garment.
Our standard polyester pleats are selected and heat-set to retain their structure during normal wear and appropriate washing. The exact result always depends on the material and on following the care instructions supplied with the garment.
Avoid direct ironing, steam, tumble drying and unnecessary heat. If a pleat is damaged or a stubborn crease appears, contact us before trying to reshape it with heat.
The value is in the work and specialist knowledge behind each garment: original design, two print pieces prepared individually for one printed skirt, material selected for permanent pleating, generous full-circle fabric volume, specialist heat-setting, construction, finishing and inspection.
Production stays small and close to our family atelier rather than being handed to an anonymous large manufacturer. This allows us to control how the print, pleats, fit and movement come together in the finished piece.
We photograph our garments as accurately as possible, but screens, brightness settings and lighting can change how a colour appears. Customers often tell us that the colours and print details look even more vivid in person.
If a precise shade is important for an outfit or occasion, contact us before ordering and we will describe it as clearly as we can.
Care, washing & storage
Most of our standard polyester pleated skirts can be washed and do not require routine dry cleaning. Wash gently by hand or on a delicate machine programme at 30°C, without fabric softener or a strong spin. Do not tumble dry. Arrange the pleats in their natural direction and hang the skirt to air-dry.
Always follow the care card supplied with your garment. Velvet, faux leather, organza, layered pieces and other special materials may need different care.
Avoid ironing or steaming the pleats. Direct heat and moisture can weaken or distort the structure. After washing, arrange the folds while the skirt is damp and hang it to air-dry. If a crease remains, contact us before applying heat.
We recommend hanging the skirt so that the pleats fall naturally. Alternatively, arrange it in the original Stylyne box and store the box horizontally. Our skirt boxes are made to fit the garment's length, so the pleats can rest without being forced into a smaller space.
We assess damaged pleated garments made by Stylyne and by other brands. Whether a repair or re-pleating is possible depends on the fibre, fabric finish, construction and previous damage.
Send photographs of the garment, the damaged area and the composition label before bringing or sending it to us. We will explain what may be possible and any risks before work begins. Natural fibres such as silk, cotton and wool cannot always be guaranteed to hold a permanent new pleat.
Ordering, delivery & returns
Some pieces are ready in stock, while others are prepared after you order as part of our limited production. This lets us make distinctive designs in small quantities, avoid unnecessary stock and keep direct oversight of the garment.
A piece made after ordering normally needs 10–15 business days—approximately two to three weeks—before dispatch. This preparation time is separate from carrier delivery.
